BERKELEY -- An 46-year-old Albany man was arrested Tuesday after police said he plowed his car through a Berkeley liquor store and struck a woman inside.

Keith Kelly of Albany was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run causing injury and was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on $10,000 bail.

The victim, a customer at the store, received minor injuries and was treated at a hospital, police said.

Police were called to East Liquors at 3045 San Pablo Ave. about 9:30 p.m. after reports of the crash. Berkeley police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said the man attempted to leave the store after the crash, but employees detained him until officers arrived.

The store was open for business Wednesday, but the building's front door and inside counters were damaged, Coats said.

Coats said investigators don't yet know what caused the crash, but that it doesn't appear drugs or alcohol were involved. The driver may have made an unsafe turn, Coats said.

Coats said a passenger in the front seat of the Chevrolet Cavalier ran off after the crash, but is not wanted in connection to the hit and run.
