OAKLAND -- Police are investigating the city's 122nd homicide of the year after a man was shot and killed in East Oakland Thursday afternoon, police said.
The victim's name was not released by police. He was tentatively identified as a 49-year-old man out of Contra Costa County.
He was shot at 83rd Avenue and D Street about 3:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A motive has not been determined, police said.
Homicides are up in Oakland this year compared to 2011. At this time last year, there had been 105 killings in the city.
