OAKLAND -- Hoover Elementary School was placed on a brief lockdown Friday morning as police investigated a caller's claim that a shooting was imminent on the campus.

The threat came in about 8:47 a.m. from a male caller, prompting Oakland police to join Oakland Unified School District police at the school. Officers swept and surrounded the campus, but did not find any suspect.

The lockdown was cleared about 9:20 a.m., and there were no reports of any gunfire or injuries, according to Troy Flint, spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District. Police remained at the school as a precaution.

The school, located at 890 Brockhurst Street, just east of Market Street and south of Interstate 580, has about 300 students, Flint said.

Police received another call just after 9 a.m. threatening violence at Oakland Technical High School, at 45th Street and Broadway. Officers investigated but did not find anything suspicious, and the school was not placed on lockdown.
