HAYWARD -- A Southern California man was killed in a car crash Wednesday evening in one of Hayward's busiest intersections, police said.

The victim, identified as Michael Sabb, 53, of Buena Park, was driving a dark blue Nissan westbound on Industrial Boulevard approaching Hesperian Boulevard when the collision occurred about 9:27 p.m.

A blue Mustang traveling northbound on Hesperian entered the intersection at the same time as Sabb's car, Sgt. Eric Melendez said. The front end of the Mustang collided with the Nissan's driver side door, and both cars stopped in the middle of the intersection.

Officers responded moments later and pronounced Sabb dead at the scene, Melendez said.

According to Melendez, neither the driver nor the passenger in the Mustang was injured in the crash. Sabb was alone in his car at the time of the collision, and it was unknown if he was wearing his seat belt.

The cause of the crash, as well as whether alcohol was a factor, is under investigation by the Hayward Police Department Traffic Bureau.
