Vikings win West Coast title Led by tournament MVP Izzy Ayad's 21 points, the Valley Christian High's girls basketball team topped previously undefeated University-San Francisco 63-59 in the championship game of the Onyx Division of the West Coast Jamboree on Dec. 29. The Vikings (10-2) also bested Berean Christian 55-52 and El Molino-Forestville 58-16 in the Classic. Valley Christian's all-tournament selections were sophomores Emma Ayad and Alyssa Lorenzo.

Dublin bests Amador Valley, Foothill The Dublin High girls basketball team defeated Foothill 47-36 in the consolation final of the Gold Division in the West Coast Jamboree on Dec. 29, after the Gaels topped Amador Valley 61-52 in the consolation semifinals. Senior captain Alison Martinez, a 5-foot-8 guard, led the Gaels with a game-high 14 points against Foothill. Juniors Kristjan Aubry and Alyssa Ybarra were the Gaels' all-tournament picks. Foothill freshman Caroline McMorrow had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore captain Emily Barrett had 10 points and 11 boards. Amador Valley junior Courtney Seams had 15 rebounds against the Gaels.
Livermore girls get their kicks The Livermore High girls soccer team continued its strong start with a 2-0 nonleague win over Heritage on Dec. 29. The Cowboys beat Monte Vista, the defending North Coast Section Division I champion, 1-0 and drew 0-0 with California in their previous two games.

Wolves take Tri-Valley Classic The San Ramon Valley High girls soccer team repeated as champion of the Tri-Valley Classic with a 2-0 win over Buchanan-Clovis in the Invitational Division on Dec. 29 at the Mustangs Soccer Complex. The unbeaten Wolves beat Santa Margarita-Rancho Santa Margarita 3-1 on Dec. 29 to clinch a spot in the final, after battling Archbishop Mitty to a scoreless draw.

On deck Livermore at Monte Vista, boys basketball, Jan. 4, 7 p.m. -- The improving Cowboys will face a traditional East Bay Athletic League power in the Mustangs, guided by new coach Nick Jones, to conclude the first week of the league season.
Stars of the week Jamir Andrews, Dublin boys basketball -- Andrews, a senior guard, had a team-high 24 points to go along with four assists and six steals in an 86-72 win over San Lorenzo on Dec. 28 in the semifinals of the Tim Cole Memorial Tournament. James Dayton, Livermore boys basketball -- Dayton, a junior forward, had a game-high 20 points in a 64-62 nonleague win over Alameda on Dec. 28. Cory Frederickson, Foothill boys basketball -- Frederickson, an all-tournament selection along with teammate Steven Patrick, scored a game-high 17 points in a 51-38 win over American in the fifth-place game of the Tim Cole Memorial Tournament on Dec. 29. Jasmine Jenkins, Dougherty Valley girls basketball -- Jenkins, a 6-foot-1 senior forward, had a game-high 18 points in the Wildcats' 48-43 win over Pleasant Valley-Chico in the third place game of the Monterey Classic on Dec. 29 Sara Jensen, Monte Vista girls basketball -- Jensen, a 6-foot senior, scored a team-high 14 points in the Mustangs' 52-43 loss against Alameda in the championship game of the Lady Wolves Christmas Invitational on Dec. 29
