Alameda girls win invitational

  • The Alameda High girls basketball team defeated Monte Vista 52-43 to win the Lady Wolves Invitational on Dec. 29. Marie Bertholdt led the Hornets in scoring with 22 points and was named all-tournament, along with teammates Maddy Lewis (who had 15 points in the championship game) and Tori McGovern.

    Piedmont boys reach championship game

  • The Piedmont High boys basketball team reached the championship game of the San Diego Division of the Surf N' Slam Tournament before falling 61-48 to Carlmont-Belmont. The Highlanders (8-3) trailed only 28-25 at halftime, but Carlmont had a key 13-6 run in the third quarter. Aidan Davison, Dylan James-Kavanaugh and James Ormond each led Piedmont with nine points in a balanced scoring effort.

    Carleton lifts El Cerrito over Jordan

  • Jovante Carleton's two free throws with one second remaining boosted the El Cerrito High boys basketball team to a 60-59 victory over Jordan-Long Beach in the consolation bracket of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic's National Division on Dec. 29. Tyrell Alcorn scored a game-high 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, for the Gauchos, who improved to 10-5 with the victory. Rae Jackson added 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, for El Cerrito.

  • Skyline at Oakland Tech, girls basketball, Jan. 9, 4 p.m. -- An early-season showdown between two of the Oakland Athletic League's best teams.

  • San Lorenzo at Berkeley, boys basketball, Jan. 9, 7 p.m. -- The Yellowjackets will face the Rebels and their star, Ali Faruqbey.

  • Desire Finnie, Berkeley girls basketball -- Finnie scored 11 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter, but Berkeley came up short as Chaminade beat the Yellowjackets 62-57 in a semifinal game of the West Coast Jamboree's Platinum Division on Dec. 29.

  • Kendrick Payne, Skyline boys basketball -- Payne scored a game-high 17 points in the Titans' 50-49 victory over Burlingame in the fifth-place game of the LaRocca Sand Dune Tournament on Dec. 29.

  • Adam Wuebbens, Piedmont boys basketball -- Wuebbens scored a game-high 28 points, including seven 3-pointers, in the Highlanders' 77-73 semifinal victory over Xavier-N.Y. in the San Diego Division of the Surf N' Slam Tournament on Dec. 28.
