REDWOOD CITY -- The sentencing of former Clayton Vice Mayor Joe Medrano on a felony embezzlement conviction was postponed Friday until next week.

Medrano, who was convicted in October of stealing from Redwood City client iPass, is scheduled to return to San Mateo County Superior Court at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 11. His sentencing had already been pushed back after he missed a hearing Dec. 31 because he was vacationing with his family.

District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Medrano appeared this time, but his attorneys called the court Friday morning and said they wouldn't be able to make it.

Medrano, who worked as an insurance broker, was found guilty of taking $159,000 from iPass and failing to give the money to Travelers Insurance, instead pocketing the sum. He faces up to four years in prison.

Medrano resigned from the Clayton City Council in October.
