FREMONT -- Police arrested a man with a BB gun at a Walmart store Friday after he was overheard by patrons saying he wanted to shoot people, police said.

Officers responded to the Wal-Mart store at 44009 Osgood Road about 11 a.m., where a 911 caller reported a 46-year-old man was "acting bizarre" and making comments to customers about his desire to shoot people, Officer Scott Sanders said.

"There was a heavy police presence, as there will be any time someone threatens to shoot people," Sanders said. "But the man produced no weapon."

Police did recover a BB gun from a duffel bag filled with the man's belongings, Sanders said. There was no violent confrontation between the man and any customers.

Officers arrested the man and placed him on a psychiatric hold, Sanders said.
