SAN JOSE -- Police do not believe a 22-year-old San Jose man was driving under the influence early Sunday when his BMW slammed into two light poles, killing him.
The man, whose name has not been released, crashed around 2:45 a.m. near South First Street and Interstate 280, said San Jose police Officer Albert Morales. An ambulance rushed to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead about 3:05 a.m., making him San Jose's second traffic fatality of 2013.
So far, police believe the man was headed south on South First Street when his blue BMW veered off the roadway, hit the poles and flipped. Police did not say why he lost control of the car, but say drugs and alcohol are "not suspected at this time." No other vehicles were involved.
Police did not find any witnesses to the crash once they arrived at the scene. Anyone with information about the collision can call San Jose police at 408-277-4654.
