OAKLAND -- A man whose attempt to run across four lanes of traffic on Interstate 880 ended in his death Sunday night was identified as 44-year-old David Mayorga of San Leandro.
California Highway Patrol officers were called to the northbound lanes on I-880 near High Street about 7:45 p.m. Sunday after Mayorga crashed his Honda Civic into the center divider. Police said Mayorga then exited the car and tried to run across freeway and was struck by two cars, according to the CHP.
The drivers of both vehicles stopped and cooperated with police. The CHP is investigating why Mayorga crashed the car in the first place.
