Berkeley 3, Hayward 2: The host Yellowjackets continued to affirm their position as one of the top teams in the East Bay with a West Alameda County Conference win over the Farmers. It is the eighth straight win for Berkeley, which got two goals from Nigus Solomon and one from Calvin Wright.
"We're on a roll right now, and we hope it continues," Solomon said.
Berkeley (10-1-3, 6-0-1 WACC) had leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but the Farmers (9-3-1, 4-2-1) didn't go away. Esteban Mares scored in the 57th minute to cut Berkeley's lead to 2-1, and Luigi Castillo's header in the 70th minute made it a one-goal game again.
"We could have put our head down, but we didn't," Hayward coach Alex Ortega said. "We kept fighting, and I'm proud of the boys for that."
