Alameda's Cub Scout Pack No. 78 took part in the USS Hornet's Live-Aboard Overnight Program on the weekend of Dec. 1-2 to earn its "Arrow of Light" service project.

The Scouts had dinner and breakfast in the mess hall, toured key areas in the ship of historical significance and slept in restored berthing compartments on Dec. 1, where the actual Hornet crew lived years ago.

The following morning, the Cub Scouts served breakfast to more than 200 people who were on board. The Scouts' duties included mopping the kitchen galley and mess hall, and scrubbing handrails and doorways throughout the ship. These duties earned the Scouts the service project, one of many of the requirements toward earning the "Arrow of Light" award.

The Cub Scouts in attendance were: Matthew Geller, Aidan Olson, Jack Wilhelm, Michael Proffitt, Ian Ramos, Zachary Ramos, Ben Ratto, Zavier Annis. Honorary guest helper was Jennifer Proffitt.

The USS Hornet crew involved were Kurt Zeigler, Zora Hill and Bill Fee.
