Contra Costa County seeks volunteers to help count the homeless during its biennial survey set for Jan. 30.

The county uses the data in applications for state and federal funds that help provide services to the more than 7,000 homeless people, including many children.

Volunteers are needed countywide. Participants must be at least 18 years old and attend a one-hour training session one week before the count.
