SAN RAMON -- Police are seeking the public's help in locating a robbery suspect who remains on the run after a deadly jewelry store heist in May.
Manuel Jovan Arroyo, 20, of Hayward, is wanted on charges of murder and robbery after a foiled plan to rob Gold N Treasures jewelry store left a Hayward teenager dead, Lt. Dan Pratt said.
Kibrom Bairu, 18, a friend and one of Arroyo's accomplices, died during the May 30 robbery after being shot by the store owner.
Police say Bairu was carrying a handgun when he and three other men burst into the shop in the 2500 block of San Ramon Valley Boulevard, and that the shooter fired in self-defense. According to deputy district attorney John Cope, the men ran from the store carrying backpacks filled with stolen property before a mortally wounded Bairu collapsed into the street.
Additional suspects, 22-year-old Jamal Lewis, of Hayward, and Krishneel Prasad, 19, of Hayward, were arrested in June and charged with the murder of their friend, along with three counts on the robbery charge.
Arroyo is of African American and Hispanic descent, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 150 pounds, Pratt said. He has black hair and hazel eyes, as well as multiple tattoos on his arms and on the right side of his neck. He is known to live in Hayward, but also has connections to the Walnut Creek area.
Arroyo is wanted on an outstanding warrant that sets his bail at $1.3 million. Anyone with information about Arroyo's whereabouts is asked to call San Ramon Police Sergeant C. Goldberg at 925-973-2763 or email email@example.com.
