FREMONT -- A fundraising dinner Sunday will benefit a 12-year-old national baton-twirling champion who is getting ready to represent her country in an international competition. The spaghetti feed will benefit Amelia DiPaola, who will represent Team USA this summer in a competition in the Netherlands, said Jeanne DiPaola, her mother.
Amelia qualified for Team USA last year in a national baton competition in Columbus, Ohio. She is a national champion in the three-baton category in her age group.
Amelia, who attends Thornton Junior High, will perform at the fundraiser. Free baton lessons will be available to those who rent a baton, Jeanne DiPaola said.
Admission to the dinner is $10.
The event will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. James the Apostle Church, at 34700 Fremont Blvd., near Decoto Road.
