Skyline ends McClymonds' streak

  • The Skyline High girls basketball team outscored McClymonds 8-3 in the final seven minutes of the Oakland Athletic League game on Jan. 18 to win 52-51 and end McClymonds' winning streak at 15 games. Sophomore guard Safiyyah Yasin scored a team-high 12 points and teammate Briana Carson produced 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Darrien Washington had nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks for Skyline, which improved to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in the OAL with the victory. McClymonds fell to 16-3 overall and 2-1 in the OAL.

    Panthers rebound with victory

  • The St. Mary's High girls basketball team bounced back from a 62-59 overtime loss to Salesian on Jan. 18 with a 58-49 win over South Medford-Ore. on Jan. 19 at St. Mary's-Stockton in the MLK-St. Mary's Basketball Showcase. St. Mary's took a 34-24 halftime lead in the win. The Panthers' Gabby Green led all scorers with 29 points, including 12 field goals. Teammate Elexis Goodwin added 10 points. Green also produced 20 points in the loss to Salesian.

    Alameda starts fast in win over Hayward

  • The Alameda High boys basketball team jumped out to a 24-6 first-quarter lead on its way to a 53-42 win over Hayward on Jan. 18. Sam Kunz led the Hornets with 14 points, and teammate Chris Bussey added 12 points in the victory. Alameda improved to 9-8 overall with the victory.

  • Berkeley vs. Carondelet, girls basketball, Jan. 26, 5 p.m. -- The nonleague schedule doesn't get any easier for the Yellowjackets, as they face the Cougars at the Campolindo Shootout at Bentley.

  • Bishop O'Dowd at Castro Valley, girls soccer, Jan. 30, 6 p.m. -- Two of the top teams in the East Bay clash in their second West Alameda County Conference game. On Dec. 13, O'Dowd shut out the Trojans 4-0.

  • Encinal at Alameda, girls basketball, Jan. 30, 6:30 p.m. -- The two rivals clash in a West Alameda County Conference game.

  • Briana Carson, Skyline girls basketball -- The sophomore guard filled up the stat sheet on Jan. 18 with 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a 52-51 victory over McClymonds.

  • K.C. Waters, Bishop O'Dowd girls basketball -- Waters scored 19 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a 71-39 victory over Brookside Christian-Stockton on Jan. 19. She also had 11 points in a 64-29 win over Alameda on Jan. 19.

  • Adam Wuebbens, Piedmont boys basketball -- Wuebbens scored 23 points and had three blocks in a 58-49 win over Encinal on Jan. 18, and also produced 28 points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 64-61 loss to Marin Catholic on Jan. 19.

  • Gabby Green, St. Mary's girls basketball -- Green scored a game-high 29 points in a 58-49 win over South Medford-Ore. on Jan 19, and 20 points in a 62-59 overtime loss to Salesian on Jan. 18.

  • Justyce Key, Berkeley boys basketball -- Key produced a team-high 22 points in a 72-70 victory over Castro Valley on Jan. 16.

  • Sam Kunz, Alameda boys basketball -- Kunz scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Hornets' 53-42 win over Hayward on Jan. 18.

  • Marcellus Pippins, El Cerrito boys basketball -- Pippins scored a game-high 23 points in the Gauchos' 65-43 win over Pinole Valley on Jan. 18.

  • Temidayo Yussef, St. Joseph Notre Dame boys basketball -- Yussef scored a game-high 22 points in the Pilots' 63-57 win over St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Jan. 18.
