PALO ALTO -- An elderly woman was hit by a pickup truck as she was crossing Embarcadero Road on Friday and died later at a local hospital, police said.
Palo Alto police said Saturday that they received a report just before 8 p.m. Friday of a major injury accident on the 800 block of Embarcadero Road. Their initial investigation found that a woman in her 70s was walking across Embarcadero Road southbound between Walnut Drive and Bret Harte Street when she was hit by a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup heading eastbound.
The driver of the truck, a San Jose resident in her 30s, stayed at the scene and was cooperating with officials, police said.
The dead pedestrian was not immediately identified.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident, and the unidentified driver was not cited at the scene.
