HAYWARD -- A new website lets residents weigh in on what they like in the city and what needs improving.

Hayward2040.org is part of the city's effort to hear from residents as it updates Hayward's general plan.

"It has an online discussion forum; it's a pretty cool thing," said Erik Pearson, Hayward senior planner.

The general plan provides a blueprint for growth and development, sets citywide policy, and outlines programs and projects to achieve the community's vision.

Pearson said 2040 was used in the name because it's "the horizon year we're looking forward to."

Hayward2040.org let residents share new ideas, give their opinions on others' and expand on existing ideas. They can provide feedback on initiatives and directly work with city staff members on subjects relating to Hayward.

Some of the initial topics include: What is your vision for Hayward? What are the three things you love most about living here?
