HAYWARD -- Traffic was snarled for a short while but nobody was injured Friday morning when 10 cars were involved in a chain-reaction collision on Interstate 880, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck occurred at 10:55 a.m. near the 98th Avenue onramp to southbound I-880 when a red van and a silver Chrysler collided. It was unknown immediately how those two cars collided, but the other cars involved wrecked as a result of a chain reaction, the CHP said.

One lane was blocked for nearly 30 minutes before the CHP was able to get all the involved cars on the right-hand shoulder, the CHP said. The estimated cost in damages to the vehicles involved was not immediately known.
