A paralegal for a Bay Area personal injury law firm allegedly settled claims on her own and stole the proceeds over a period of several years, according to federal prosecutors.
Ana Lissa Reyes, a San Lorenzo resident who worked as a secretary, office manager and paralegal, allegedly settled claims without the knowledge of the law firm or clients between 2006 and 2011 and stole the proceeds, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Friday.
Reyes also allegedly engaged clients without the firms knowledge and stole their retainer fees, using a bogus company she had created, prosecutors said.
She also allegedly evaded taxes during those years by failing to report her full income, prosecutors said.
Reyes was arraigned on Thursday and is scheduled to appear next in federal court in Oakland at 2 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2013.
