OAKLAND -- A woman was killed Monday morning in a vehicle crash in the Fruitvale district, police said.

The woman's name, age and city of residence has not been released pending notification of her family.

She was driving east about 11:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of Foothill Boulevard in her Jeep when police say she swerved to avoid hitting something in the road; police don't yet know what she was trying to avoid. The woman veered into the westbound lane and collided with another car, causing the Jeep to flip, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver in the other car was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, but police said the person was expected to survive.

Foothill

Boulevard was shut down in both directions during the investigation.
