BRENTWOOD -- Those planning to attend this city's signature festival won't have to shuck plans this year because the walk from the parking lot is too far.
Tri Delta Transit directors agreed last week to operate a bus route during the Brentwood CornFest from various parking locations to the front gate. The service will be on a trial basis this year.
"The way it's laid out now, with the parking so far away, (to have the bus) is an ideal situation," said board member Barbara Guise of Brentwood. While working booths at last year's event, Guise said the number one complaint she heard from people was the horrible parking situation.
"It will solve a great problem," she said.
The East Contra Costa bus line had provided that service in years past but stopped in 2008 because the event changed locations and it became impractical, said Jeanne Krieg, Tri Delta's chief executive officer.
"It will be huge to have them run the shuttle service. It's a service that will benefit a lot of people of all ages," said Dirk Zeigler, a CornFest committee member.
It remains uncertain where the 21st version of CornFest will be held on July 12-14.
The Chamber of Commerce held a pair of forums recently, mainly to discuss whether CornFest should be moved back downtown. It was held there each year until being uprooted by the construction of a new civic center after 2009, but the new layout presents some obstacles.
"There are so many potential costs, it would be almost impossible," said chamber president and CornFest committee member Ken Seamann.
Options under consideration include last year's location on Brentwood Boulevard off Technology Way, and several spots along Brentwood Boulevard, including south of Balfour Road.
One of the biggest nuisances for CornFest attendees at the event's various locations in the past few years has been parking.
"The shuttle will take care of that. It will be beneficial," Seamann said.
The board's action means Tri Delta will provide service regardless of the location and work with the chamber, Krieg said.
