Monte Vista girls roll into section playoffs

  • Sisters Lynsey and Mallory Hromatko each scored as the Monte Vista High girls soccer team beat Granada 2-0 in a makeup game on Feb. 9 to close out the East Bay Athletic League regular season. The Mustangs entered the North Coast Section Division I playoffs this week as the No. 2 seed. San Ramon Valley is the No. 1 seed. Granada finished the season with a 5-9 league record.

    Athenian wrestling makes history

  • The No. 3 seeded Athenian wrestling team earned its best finish at the NCS Division III Dual Team Championships on Feb. 9. The Owls beat Kelseyville 51-22 in the third-place match. Athenian also defeated St. Patrick/St. Vincent-Vallejo 49-24 in the consolation to bracket.

    Amador Valley girls hold off SRV

  • Alysse Ketner and Courtney Seams each had 15 points as the Amador Valley girls basketball team held off upset-minded San Ramon Valley 46-45 on Feb. 8 in the EBAL. Sophomore Morgan McGarry led the young Wolves with 10 points. Amador Valley had a big week, also beating Monte Vista 51-41 on Feb. 5, besting the Mustangs for the second time this season. Ketner had 17 points to lead the way.

  • Dougherty Valley at Dublin, boys basketball, 5:30 p.m., Feb. 14 -- The Diablo Foothill Athletic League rivals will meet in the teams' regular-season finale. The Gaels, led by JoJo McGlaston, have clinched the league title, and the Wildcats entered the week in fifth place.

  • San Ramon Valley at Monte Vista, boys basketball, 7 p.m., Feb. 15 -- The improving Wolves will try to avenge a 54-50 loss against their rivals as the teams close out the regular season.

  • EBAL Championships, wrestling, Feb. 16 -- The best wrestlers in the league will meet at Foothill High. De La Salle will be the favorite for the team title, but several individual championships will be up for grabs.

  • Jeff Greenberg, Monte Vista soccer -- Greenberg had a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Granada in EBAL action on Feb. 5.

  • Trevor John, Monte Vista basketball -- The junior scored a game-high 23 points in a 60-52 win over Granada on Feb. 8, helping the Mustangs improve to 18-6 and 9-3 in the EBAL and remain two games behind first-place De La Salle.

  • Amanda Daily, Monte Vista basketball -- The 5-foot-6 sophomore had a game-high 16 points as the Mustangs routed Granada 74-43 to rebound from their second straight loss against Amador Valley.

  • Christian Clark, Foothill soccer -- Clark scored in the 79th minute to give the Falcons a thrilling 1-0 win over California on Feb. 5 in EBAL boys action.

  • Robert Ferrero, Valley Christian basketball -- The 6-foot-6 junior scored a game-high 21 points in a 51-44 win over College Prep on Feb. 8, improving the Vikings' record to 6-4 in the Bay Counties League-East.

  • Alyssa Ketner, Amador Valley basketball -- Ketner had a game-high 17 points in a 51-41 win over Monte Vista on Feb. 5 that moved the Dons into a tie for second place with the Mustangs.
