OAKLAND -- Two 16-year-old boys were arrested Tuesday morning after a carjacked Mazda they were driving crashed during a police chase in East Oakland.
No injuries were reported.
The names of the suspects were not released because of their age.
Police said a 2006 Mazda 3 was taken at gunpoint from a woman just before 10 a.m. in the 2100 block of Seminary Avenue. The woman's purse was also stolen, police said.
Officers said that about 11:30 a.m. they saw the teens get into the car in the area of 69th Avenue and Hawley Street so they began pursuing them. The chase continued on city streets until the Mazda crashed into a light pole about five minutes later at the northeast corner at 82nd Avenue and International Boulevard.
The suspects got out of the car and tried to run but officers caught them.
Police are trying to determine whether the teens are suspects in the carjacking.
The teens were arrested on suspicion of evading police and possession of stolen property. The case remains under investigation.
