DANVILLE -- A student was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car down the street from Charlotte Wood Middle School on Tuesday, police said.

The student was hit at El Capitan Drive and Brookside Drive, just down the street from the school, as classes were letting out about 3 p.m., police Lt. Jeff Moule said. Fire and police crews arrived on scene within minutes of the 911 call.

The student, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to the hospital by a parent as a precaution, police said. The victim, a male middle school student, suffered some "minor bumps" in the low-speed collision.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with police, Moule said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
