DANVILLE -- The Planning Commission suggested a few changes Tuesday night to the Danville 2030 General Plan before it voted to approve it and send it to the Town Council for final approval.
1) The original draft of the 2030 plan included language on P-1 zoning that allows clustering of development on agriculturally zoned land. The 2010 plan did not include this language. The commission recommended the P-1 zoning language be removed from the 2030 plan.
2) The original draft also included a short text box that mentioned Measure S -- an open space preservation initiative passed by Danville voters in 2000. The measure requires a vote of the public on any project that would require a general plan amendment to change certain land use designations.
The commission recommended the Measure S text box be removed and replaced with text that more fully explains the measure.
3) The draft required a minimum of 9.6 acres be zoned for high-density, affordable housing to fulfill a shortfall in the town's regional housing needs allocation required by the Association of Bay Area Governments. The commission reviewed six housing opportunity sites Tuesday night that totaled 18.75 acres that could go toward the shortfall. The commission opted to remove the El Cerro/Interstate-680 site, totaling 2.2 acres, and not zone it for high-density, affordable housing.

4) The commission also asked to include in the plan the definition of affordable housing in Danville.
With the revisions, the plan now goes to the Town Council, which is tentatively scheduled to vote on it at its regular meeting on March 5.
