Alameda Mayor Gilmore proclaimed Feb. 5 as Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter Day and presented a nice proclamation to FAAS Board President Nancy Evans Bianchi and Executive Director Mim Carlson. The FAAS board and staff are honored for this wonderful recognition on the organization's anniversary.

Alameda businesses are generously helping homeless animals by having fundraisers for FAAS. Urban Island Home Furnishings has raised more than $2,800 for the shelter. Tomatino's had a very successful daylong event with 20 percent of all food purchases being donated to FAAS. Applebee's hosted a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser with the Alameda Police Department to benefit the animals, and Bowzer's Pizza is having their fundraiser for FAAS this weekend. Overwhelming support from the wonderful Alameda businesses demonstrates our pet-friendly community. If your business wants to put on a fundraiser for FAAS, call the development department at 510-337-8572.

The shelter has several dogs that have been brought in recently as strays:

A024171: large male brindle pit bull found on Paru Street.

A024170: large male black-and-white pit bull found on Encinal and Regent Street.

A024169: tan-and-black dachshund-Chihuahua male found on Clement and Grand.

A024158: male black-and-white poodle with mohawk cut dumped from car on Lincoln.

A024172: female white Maltese found on Buena Vista and Paru.

If one of these sounds like it might be your dog, please call FAAS at 510-337-8565.
