Two men were arrested in Corte Madera early Thursday after police stopped a speeding vehicle and found more than 15 pounds of marijuana inside.
Rudy Justin Nakooka, 35, of Clearlake and Peter Vincent Gielow, 32, of San Bruno were booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of marijuana transportation and possession of marijuana for sale. Bail was set at $30,000 each.
The traffic stop occurred at about 1:30 a.m., when California Highway Patrol officers saw a speeding vehicle on northbound Highway 101 in Marin City.
The vehicle was weaving in and out of lanes, and when it passed the Tiburon Boulevard exit, police started to pull it over. The driver was slow to respond and then pulled into an active construction zone near Paradise Drive, said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.
The driver, identified as Nakooka, appeared to be intoxicated, and police detected the "overwhelming odor of marijuana" coming from the vehicle, Barclay said.
Nakooka and his passenger, Gielow, had a small amount of marijuana on them, and when police searched the vehicle they found the 15 pounds of packaged marijuana.
