PALO ALTO -- A man was killed when he was hit by a Union Pacific train on Caltrain tracks Monday night, authorities said.
According to Caltrain spokesman Christine Dunn, the man was on a southbound stretch of track at Churchill Avenue about 9:20 p.m. when the train hit him.
The circumstances for why the man was on the track are being investigated by Caltrain transit police, Dunn said. His identity was not immediately released.
The track was shut down for about five hours and trains were routed in both directions on the northbound tracks.
