SAN FRANCISCO -- A Fremont-based cancer research organization has scheduled a conference that aims to share new information about breast cancer with medical professionals and patients.

The Cancer Prevention Institute of California, founded in 1974 with the goal of preventing cancer and offering outreach programs to patients, is hosting the 12th annual conference on March 2 in San Francisco. The session will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Golden Gate Club, at 135 Fisher Loop in the Presidio.

The conference will provide information on breast cancer, which affects about 232,000 women and 2,200 men each year. There also will be updates on research, treatment, reconstructive surgery and other topics associated with the disease.

Breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee of $20. Registered nurses and social workers can receive continuing education units for an additional $35. Parking will be free.
