FREMONT -- A ceremony Sunday will honor several Bay Area African-American leaders.

It's the second year for the African American Heritage Leadership Awards, hosted by state Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, to mark Black History Month.

The ceremony will celebrate the community contributions of the Rev. Horacio Jones, who in 1986 founded Family Bible Fellowship, a Newark church; Jean Ficklin, a Newark woman who founded the Afro-American Cultural and Historical Society; the Rev. Jethroe Moore II, president of the San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP; and Will Ector, superintendent of the Berryessa Union School District in San Jose.

The event will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the South Bay Community Church, at 47385 Warm Springs Blvd. A reception will follow the ceremony.
