SAN JOSE -- A woman who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Tuesday while crossing Monterey Road has been identified as Tina Messineo, 48, of San Jose.
Messineo was struck around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Bellevue Avenue, and arriving officers found that the responsible driver had fled the scene. Messineo was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m.

Messineo was the city's fifth traffic fatality of the year, according to police.
