WALNUT CREEK -- A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after police said he sent lewd texts and Facebook messages to young girls and propositioned them for sex.
Ariel Romero Ortigoza was arrested Wednesday at his Walnut Creek home.
Police said they began receiving reports Saturday from parents of Walnut Creek Intermediate School students who said their daughters were receiving lewd and lascivious text and Facebook messages from an unknown man.
The suspect, later identified as Ortigoza, was also attempting to arrange meetings with the girls to engage in sex acts. Detectives worked with school administrators and were able to identify additional victims that had received similar communications, police said.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant for Ortigoza's home, where they said they seized evidence connecting him to the incidents.
He is being held on $65,000 bail at Contra Costa County Jail where he faces charges of sending harmful matter to a minor with the intent to seduce them, contacting and communicating with a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity and attempting to meet a minor and engage in lewd or lascivious behavior.
Anyone with further information on the incidents should contact the Walnut Creek Police Department and speak with Detective Keagy at 925-943-5881.
