SAN BRUNO -- No injuries were reported after a train struck a car that was on the railroad tracks at San Bruno Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to Caltrain officials.

Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said nobody aboard the train, northbound No. 381, was hurt and "at this time it does not appear that there was anyone in the vehicle at the time of the incident."

Dunn added that it was "very fortunate."

There was no additional information available about the nature of the crash or why the vehicle was on the tracks.

Both tracks were reopened at 7:45 p.m., Dunn said. About 400 passengers who were on the train were being taken to the San Bruno station to transfer to another train for the rest of their commute.

The involved train, one of the older "gallery style" models, will be parked in Millbrae until it can be moved to the Caltrain maintenance facility, where it will be inspected and repaired if necessary.
