FREMONT -- Police are asking the public's help to find a suspect wanted on a $1 million warrant in connection to a slew of home burglaries in the city.
Hayward resident Lawrence Nero, 25, is wanted for break-ins that include a March 1 home burglary on Meyer Court, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.
Shortly after the burglary, he led officers on vehicle pursuit in the area of Paseo Padre and Isherwood Drive, police said.
During the pursuit, he dumped an unregistered maroon Buick Regal and ran from police, jumping fences on Fairfax Court, Bosques said. Following the chase, police never located Nero.
A search of the Buick recovered additional property taken during a residential burglary on Feb. 25 in Fremont on the 35000 block of Armour Way.
On March 5, Nero was once again spotted in Fremont, but not caught.
"He was positively ID'd in a residential burglary that occurred on the 43800 block of Moray Street," Bosques said. "In most of the cases, the suspect first rings the front door bell and when he believes no one to be home, he jumps the fence and proceeds to gain entry into the back of the house."
On March 5, witnesses reported that Nero had longer facial hair and was wearing orange shoes.
Police described him as a black man in his mid 20s, 5 feet 10 inches with short hair, a beard and a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and blue jeans or sweatpants.
Anyone with information about Nero's whereabouts is asked to call police at 510-790-6800 and select option 3 or send an anonymous tip by visiting www.fremontpolice.org/Tip.
