SAN LEANDRO -- Two teenagers experienced an unnerving encounter with a transient who accosted them earlier this week, but a stranger who observed it prevented the situation from being worse, police said.

Police arrested 49-year-old Michael Roy Flores on suspicion of annoying a minor after he accosted two 14-year-old boys at the corner of East 14th Street and 136th Avenue at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Initially, police said, Flores asked the boys if they had $50. When the boys told him they did not, the man grabbed one of them by the arm and tried to pull him in close to his face, police said.

That boy pulled away, police said, but Flores persisted, puckering his lips and trying to kiss him. That boy backed away, police said.

At that point, a woman intervened and walked the boys to a nearby 7-Eleven and waited there with him until Flores left. One of the boys contacted his mother, who contacted police.
