GILROY -- Suspected prostitutes from San Jose were among six women swept up in an undercover operation that targeted sex workers in Gilroy, police said Saturday.
Undercover police arranged to meet the women at local motels for sex and then arrested them near Monterey Road and Highway 101, said Gilroy police. The women were taken to the police station, given citations and released.
Some of the women had large amounts of cash and some had intravenous drug habits, police said. More than one of the suspects had already been convicted of prostitution-related crimes in Santa Clara County. One had a warrant out for her arrest for prostitution, police said.
Local motel operators were unaware of the investigation and the alleged prostitution.
"They did not contribute or assist police with this investigation," Gilroy police said.
The suspects are: Lisa Hart, 23, and Sydney Rodgers, 46, both of San Jose; Quanisha Thomas, 18, of Oakland; Aaliyah Islam, 24, of Vallejo; Mallory Osta, 21, of Beverly Hills; and Chunmel Zhang, 38, of San Gabriel.
