FREMONT -- A woman struck and killed by a vehicle along Interstate 680 early Sunday morning has been identified as Linda Charles, 59, of Fremont, according to the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
Officers responded at 12:23 a.m. to a report of a driver who said he ran over a person's body that was in the northbound lanes of Interstate 680, California Highway Patrol Officer Ron Simmons said.
When officers arrived, they found three motorists pulled over on the right shoulder of the interstate near the Warm Springs exit and located Charles lying in the slow lane nearby.
Charles was transported to a hospital in Santa Clara County and pronounced dead, said Fremont Police spokeswoman Gevena Bosques, whose department assisted the CHP with the crash.
Officers said investigators are still looking into the circumstances of Charles death, but Bosques said family members told police that she had previously threatened to commit suicide.
The incident remained under investigation on Monday.
Anyone with information about the death is asked to call 510-286-6923 or 510-790-6957.
