LAFAYETTE -- A hazardous materials team was called Wednesday morning after a car's gas tank was punctured in a crash and leaked fuel into a storm drain, police said.

The gas tank leak happened along Moraga Road near School Street just before 9:30 a.m. Police have not released information on what the car hit or how it happened.

The fuel flowed into a storm drain and hazardous materials crews needed about two hours to clean it up, according to Lafayette police employee.

Lafayette Elementary School and Stanley Middle School are located within a mile of the incident, but both schools continued uninterrupted.
