FREMONT -- A 27-year-old waitress was behind bars Wednesday after allegedly hitting and seriously injuring an elderly relative with an iron, police said.
Ashley B. Clark, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, following the Tuesday afternoon attack at a home on Junipero Common just off Niles Boulevard, said police Spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.
Officers were called to the residence about 6:30 p.m. after a woman in her 60s dialed 911 and said she was bleeding, Bosques said.
"The victim originally stated she had fallen, but later admitted she had been struck with an iron," Bosques said.
Clark, who Bosques said is related to the victim, was identified as her attacker and then arrested.
Later that evening, about 11 p.m., as officers interviewed Clark at the police department, she became dramatically ill and collapsed on the floor, Bosques said.
The extent of her illness was not known, Bosques said, but Clark was taken by ambulance to a hospital and later released into the custody of the Santa Rita Jail.
As of late Wednesday morning Clark remained incarcerated on $30,000 bail. Jail records show she's due in court Friday to be arraigned.
