SAN CARLOS -- A burglar escaped after biting a man at his home Wednesday during a tussle over pilfered possessions, police said.
The victim, a man in his 50s, caught the burglar on the way out of his home on the 100 block of Oakview Drive about 11:20 a.m. and then fought to get back a bag of his belongings, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Detective Rebecca Rosenblatt said.
Although the victim got his items back, the burglar bit the homeowner's thumb in the process. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation of his moderate injuries. The burglar ran off toward Alameda de las Pulgas.
Rosenblatt described the thief as a Latino man in his 20s who appeared to be about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He had short, dark hair and wore a hooded sweatshirt and pants, which were both black.
