Alameda Elks Lodge 1015, located at 2255 Santa Clara Ave., Alameda, is having its 107th installation of officers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Grand Exalted Ruler will be John Lathbury, who is a Brit by birth but whose sense of travel has taken him around the world many times with the British Army, where he served for 14 years.
He moved to the United States in 1987. He didn't stand still, taking a year off to travel the world. The Elks played a large part in the decision to return to Alameda, offering him the opportunity to help the veterans he had come to know.
Lathbury calls Alameda his home and when not designing telecommunication networks he is following his passions of scuba diving as an instructor at a local dive shop and as a member of the Alameda County Sheriff's search and recovery dive team.
Admission is free to the installation.
