SANTA CRUZ -- An inmate was mistakenly freed from Main Jail on Friday after he posed as another inmate with a similar name and physical description, the Sheriff's Office said.
Jail staff failed to follow the proper procedures and did not confirm inmate Jesse Warren Parsons' identity before releasing him, Sgt. Patrick Dimick said in a statement.
Parsons was last seen walking from the Water Street jail toward the San Lorenzo River area about 11:45 a.m., Dimick said.
Parsons, 35, was arrested on Wednesday for several outstanding warrants. He has a local criminal history that includes trespass, petty thefts, substance abuse, resisting arrest and domestic violence, Dimick said.Parsons is known to visit campsites on the Westside, according to the Sheriff's Office.
He is white, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
He was last seen wearing a red plaid long-sleeved shirt with jeans and black shoes.
