Leung fires no-hitter, also excels at plate

  • Encinal High's Christian Leung threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also went 3 for 5 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI in an 18-0, five-inning victory for the Jets baseball team over San Lorenzo on March 22. The win improved Encinal's West Alameda County Conference mark to 2-2 and its overall record to 4-4-1.

    Flemer stifles El Cerrito in 5-1 victory

  • St. Mary's High senior pitcher Kevin Flemer hurled a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts and only one walk in a 5-1 Tri-County Athletic League victory over El Cerrito on March 21. The Gauchos scored in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, with Perry Van Eckhardt providing the RBI. But St. Mary's scored one in the top of the second and four in the third. Nick Ultsch and Max Goldstein both had two hits and an RBI for St. Mary's.

  • Georgia Hill, Piedmont softball -- Hill hit for the cycle, including a two-run home run in the third inning, and pitched a three-hitter in the Highlanders' 16-1 win over Hayward in a WACC game on March 22.

  • Rachel Howard, Berkeley girls basketball -- Howard scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Yellowjackets' 46-28 loss to Long Beach Poly in the California Interscholastic Federation Division I state championship game on March 22.

  • K.C. Waters, Bishop O'Dowd girls basketball -- Waters scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds in the Dragons' 60-45 victory over Windward in the California Interscholastic Federation Open Division state championship game on March 23. Her rebound total is tied for fifth-most in a California state girls basketball championship game, and the most rebounds in a California girls state title game since 1997.
