SAN LEANDRO -- A woman was hospitalized and the person responsible for hitting her with a car was being sought by police after a hit-and-run in the parking lot of a San Leandro mini-market late Wednesday night.
A light-blue, four-door Buick going about 20 mph in reverse struck the 53-year-old woman about 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Raja Liquor & Grocery at 16672 East 14th St., California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Morales said.
The injured woman was walking east across the parking lot when she was struck, Morales said. It appeared the Buick traveled some distance going backward before hitting her, Morales said.
She was taken to Eden Medical Center with a bruise on her left knee and pain throughout her body, Morales said.
The driver never stopped, and police are searching for him, Morales said. They did not have a description of the driver, nor did they report a license plate number on the vehicle.
Anyone who may have seen the Buick or knows anything about the case is asked to call the CHP's Castro Valley office at 510-581-9028.
