Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter is full of great dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes. Now would be a great time to add a new pet to your household.

All the FAAS animals have been vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and health screened. FAAS has a wide variety of small, large, young and mature pets available. To adopt, everyone who lives in the household must come down to meet the pet. If you rent, you will need to supply a copy of your lease stating you are allowed to have pets where you live. If you own, you will need to supply proof of homeownership.

FAAS has started featuring some of their wonderful pets on YouTube. To see them in action, go to the YouTube website and search for faasshelterpets. You'll be able to see the cutest-ever "Buttercup." She's a 5-year-old, white Chinese crested/papillon mix. She's like a little circus dog and knows how to dance on her hind legs. Buttercup is a nice dog overall but she does need some desensitization training to help with being handled. She'd be great in a home with a dog savvy person and no kids.

You won't find gentle giant "Boris" on YouTube. He's an approximately 8-year-old neutered male tuxedo cat. Boris is friendly and affectionate, and what he lacks in athletic abilities he makes up for with gentleness. If you're looking for a cat that will chase laser pointers and battle with yarn, Boris probably is not that cat. But if you want a cat to hang out and watch TV with you, Boris is your guy.
