OAKLAND -- A man was fatally shot along Oakland streets Sunday night -- the third homicide in less than half a day in the city, police said.
Officers were called at 8:11 p.m. to the intersection of 70th Avenue and Hawley Street for a report of shots fired, said Officer Kevin McDonald.
At the scene, officers found a man who had been shot at least one time, who was dead at the scene, police said. The man's death marked the city's 23rd homicide of the year. Last year at this time, there were 27 homicides.
About four hours earlier, a man was fatally shot in East Oakland. Officers were called at 4:10 p.m. to the 8900 block of International Boulevard where they found a man suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
And earlier Sunday, a 31-year-old Oakland man was shot while sitting inside a car, police said. That man, whose name has not been released, was shot around 10:05 a.m. in the 2400 block of 68th Avenue and died about 30 minutes later at a hospital.
Police said the man lived in the area where he was shot. A gunman fled in a vehicle with other occupants.
As of Sunday evening, no motive was known and no one had been arrested in any of the homicides, police said.
A non-fatal shooting was reported Sunday evening, just before 7 p.m. in the 7500 blockof Hillside Street, police said. The victim found transportation to a hospital and was treated.
