FRESNO -- Fresno's police chief says gang members angered by the shooting by officers of a murder suspect have threatened to shoot police in retaliation.
Chief Jerry Dyer says officers shot the 24-year-old man Sunday after he tried to flee and then appeared to be arming himself.
The Fresno Bee (http://bit.ly/16eo1DE ) says authorities believe the man, whose name was not released, is a key suspect in a gang-related homicide last week. He was treated at a hospital.
Dyer says the two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave.
The Bee says after the shooting, police received multiple reports that gang members have armed themselves and are threatening to shoot a police officer.
Dyer says his agency is taking the threats seriously and has called in additional resources, including SWAT teams.
