OAKLAND -- The USA Hockey Girls' and Women's National Championships are coming to the Bay Area on Wednesday where more than 100 girls' and women's teams will compete.

The championships run through Sunday at the Oakland Ice Center, Sharks Ice at San Jose and Sharks Ice at Fremont.

The San Jose Jr. Sharks and San Jose Lady Sharks automatically earn spots in the three rinks as hosts of the five-day tournament.

The Sharks' ice rinks in San Jose and Fremont will host the girls' tournament while Oakland becomes a first-time host for part of the women's tournament.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be a part of this," said Melissa Fitzgerald, general manager of the Oakland Ice Center. "The rink was really designed to welcome this type of national event.

"The women's tournament seemed like a perfect fit for Oakland because it resides in the new Uptown neighborhood with a lot of great arts and entertainment; it's perfect for people not only to enjoy great hockey but enjoy a great area."

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors per day. An all-tournament pass costs $40 for adults and $20 for children and seniors.
