SAN LEANDRO -- A $20,000 reward is being offered in connection with a series of armed robberies at a half-dozen stores in the city, including one in which a suspect fired a round into the ceiling, police said Wednesday.
On at least four occasions this year, two suspects have entered stores together during evening hours and robbed the businesses of cash at gunpoint, said Lt. Randall Brandt. The stores include the Home Depot at 1933 Davis St.; the Rite Aid at 1355 MacArthur Blvd.; the Grocery Outlet at 2179 E. 14th St. and the Dollar Tree at 14801 Washington Ave.
During a robbery Jan. 28, one of the suspects fired a round into the ceiling of a store. No one was hurt.
In addition to those four heists, police said they believe the duo is also responsible for three other robberies in the city and possibly some in neighboring cities, said Brandt. He did not say where or when the other incidents took place.
Police described the first suspect as a black man, age 25-35, about 6 feet tall, 180-225 pounds. He wore a beanie-style hat and a sweatshirt during the robberies. The second suspect is a black man, age 25-35, about 6 feet tall, 210-260 pounds. He wore a long-sleeved shirt and sweatpants and was armed with a handgun during the Grocery Outlet robbery.
Police said $20,000 is being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the capture and conviction of the suspects.
"Thankfully, nobody has been hurt during these robberies," Brandt said. "We are confident that someone will provide us with details that may lead to resolving this robbery series peacefully."
